Yoga and East Asian Medicine: Living with the Seasons and Elements

Join yoga teacher, acupuncturist and herbalist Ali Modell, for a series of workshops that integrate yogic studies and East Asian Medicine.

Much like Ayurveda, Chinese Medicine is a traditional medical system that treats the body through natural means. In each seasonal workshop, we’ll explore concepts such as the health benefits of acupuncture and herbal medicine; lifestyle principles for living according to the current season; and postural yoga and breath work that aligns with the theme, as well as a short acupuncture session for stress relief while in an extended, supported Savasana (25 minutes). Each participant will receive 5 acupuncture needles placed by Ali that focus on general stress relief and relaxation. Receiving acupuncture in not required for participation. Handouts with Eastern nutritional recommendations and lifestyle principles will be provided.

  • Fall / Metal - The metal element correlates to the fall season, aspects of the respiratory and digestive systems and the qualities of structured and collected.

  • Winter / Water - The water element correlates to the winter season, the genitourinary system and the qualities of artistic and thoughtful.

Sunday May 5, 2019 1pm - 4pm

  • Spring / Wood - The wood element correlates to the spring season, liver function and the qualities of determination and assertion.

Sunday July 21, 2019 1pm - 4pm

  • Summer / Fire - The fire element correlates to the summer season, the circulatory system and qualities of passion and charisma.

Sunday September 8, 2019 1pm - 4pm

  • Late Summer / Earth - The earth element correlates to the late summer/harvest season, the digestive system and the qualities of grounded and caring.

Restorative Yoga with Ali

Join Ali for a session devoted to unwinding the mind and body. We'll begin with gentle rocking movements on the back to facilitate neuromuscular integration and soothe the nervous system. Then, we'll progress to Restorative postures, where the long, supported holds will further support rejuvenation and healing.


Cost: $25 or Complimentary for Members (Membership Perk includes 1 workshop per month complimentary)

Yoga Anatomy with Ali

Join Ali for a Yoga Anatomy series that will deepen your understanding of how anatomy applies to yoga. Applied anatomy will help you develop body awareness and maintain a safe and effective yoga practice. Each session will focus on a specific body region and include both lecture and movement. With each session, you'll receive a digital PDF of the slides.

Session 1: January 27, 1pm-4pm -  Lower extremity: learn about key features of the knee, ankle and foot.

Session 2: March 31, 1pm-4pm - Pelvis and hip: learn about the key features of the hip and pelvis.

Session 3: May 26, 1pm-4pm - Spine: learn about the key features of the spine and thoracic cage.

Session 4: June 9, 1pm-4pm -  Head, Neck and Breath: learn about the key features of the cranium, neck and breathing

Session 5: July 28, 1pm-4pm - Upper extremity: learn about the key features of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand.

Our 300 Hour Teacher Training program is available to all current 200 RYT's interested in becoming 500 RYT through Yoga Alliance. Led by Meg Galarza and Ali Modell, this program will deepen your understanding of the practice and refine your teaching skills for 500 hour registration. This training is open to all 200 hour RYT yoga teachers who would like to immerse into a field of self study and inquiry and obtain a 500-RYT status through Yoga Alliance.
