What is Chinese herbal medicine?
Chinese herbal medicine is a key healing strategy of East Asian Medicine. Though, acupuncture and herbal medicine are meant to be used in conjunction with each other. The practice of herbal medicine is unique in that it is individualized, and formulas are customized for the patient’s presentation. Individual medicinals are classified according to their energetic qualities, taste, appearance, function/s, and where they travel to in the organ and channel system/s of the body. Single herbs are then placed together in an herbal formula, which is truly where Chinese herbology shines: the group of medicinals works synergistically to not only treat symptoms, but also restore the body’s function. Herbal formulas are time tested—many are over 2,000 years old—and have been handed down from generation to generation as powerful therapeutic methods. The herbs are sourced from one of the most reputable Chinese herbal medicine companies in the world, based in Taiwan. (http://www.qualiherb.com/home.html)
How do herbal formulas work?
Formulas work to rebalance an organ system/s leading to systemic health. They target the root cause of disease, in addition to treating symptoms, or what we call the branch. For example, a patient with poor digestion consisting of bloating and gas will be given a formula customized to his/her needs that not only treats the bloating and gas (the branch aspects), but also rebalances GI function (the root). When used properly, formulas rarely cause unwarranted side-effects. They are a safe and drug-free way to restore optimal health.
How long do herbal formulas need to be taken to see results?
Though administered differently depending on the practitioner, herbal formulas are most often taken like a tea, and while patients can expect to notice changes within a few week of taking a formula, they can also expect to stay on their formula for some time until the desired result is met. Formulas work in a progression over time; and they are modified and altered as treatment continues. Due to this progression, it’s essential that patients be as compliant as possible when taking their formula.
